Orizzonte is a topographic fabulation made of images and words connects different layers of a transforming territory along the coasts of Southern Italy, portraying places marked by the movements of matter and people between land and sea. The 36 photographs follow the landscape’s orography vertically, from underground spaces carved into rock to the coastline, and further up to the emerged lands rising above sea level on the volcanoes Stromboli and Etna.

Handwritten words drawn from the novel Il male oscuro by Giuseppe Berto, a writer from the Veneto region who relocated to the Calabrian coast, recall his journey along the Italian peninsula until reaching the promontory of Capo Vaticano and reflect on his fear of crossing the sea towards Sicily. The text concludes by contemplating the lights visible at night on the opposite shore, towards the horizon.
