Dialogo
2019
Photography is often considered a clipping of a specific time and space, but the spatial dimension is more easily identifiable than the temporal one. Rather than speaking of the time of a photo, we should consider its temporality. In any image, several temporal levels coexist: at least that of the moment in which it was taken and that in which it is seen.
Starting from a given spatial dimension, Dialogo is an early work that creates a visual conversation between Nicoletta Grillo and a distant person through photographs taken by them in the same place forty years apart, namely on Lake Iseo. The possibility of places to retain memories is questioned through the superimposition of different temporalities, the revisiting of a site, and the act of photography.
An artist's book shows the figure of a seagull tracing page after page the line of a voice or a continuous melody.
